Web design entails a number of important elements. It needs to be attractive, easy to navigate and understand as well as contain search-engine friendly content.

Like graphic design, if it doesn't serve a purpose, it doesn't belong there. That doesn't mean it can't be fun, it means don't bog down your viewers with useless, time-consuming fluff.

It's about the viewer and their experience, enjoyable and informative.

Another important thing to consider is what goes on behind the scenes. Just having a web site doesn't mean you are easy to be found. A site by itself is like being listed in the white pages of the phone book. If someone knows your name or URL you can be found. But visitors search for keywords and categories like those found in the yellow pages. Those key words and phrases need to be properly placed in both the meta tags and content of your site. In addition, sites need to be listed with search engines. Aggressive listing can get you at or near the top of the listings, but this can be expensive, although sometimes it's worth it. It is a specialty in itself, its cost comes from the time spent keeping up with search engine criteria and tailoring a site's content to maximize its effective use of those things. I don't provide that service, although I do basic listing and setup that can still be effective in most cases.
