Bald Eagle, Homer, AK

Dumpster Eagle

I was on the Spit in Homer, Alaska, looking for a good shot of one of the many bald eagles it's famous for. Out of the corner of my eye I saw this one come down and land in a dumpster.
* The Spit is most well known for fishing. There are several outdoor stainless steel filleting tables at docking areas for people to clean their fish. And, these dumpsters to dispose of the unwanted fish parts.*

I cautiously approached and took several shots, the eagle watched me, as did a number of people at the fillet table, wondering why I was photographing fish guts. Some came over and were amazed at this large diner. It was watchful, but not skittish, and feasted-away while a half dozen people stood within ten feet.

Thank you Homer, Alaska for chosing to paint your fish-gut dumpsters such a beautiful blue, it set off the eagle's portrait quite nicely.
